BOULDER, Colo. (Aug. 6, 2025) Project AnimalAid, a nonprofit organization committed to improving animal health worldwide, recently received its largest gifts-in-kind donation to date from Sklar Corporation. Seventeen pallets of medical instruments were received at the organization’s Boulder, Colo. warehouse.

Project AnimalAid is asking the public for help in the form of monetary donations to ensure the distribution of these critical medical instruments to support veterinary teams and animal welfare organizations working in the United States and in countries where access to veterinary equipment is limited or nonexistent.

“This donation from Sklar Corporation is our most valuable donation to date and it will have a long-lasting impact on animal health,” says Meghan Curtis, executive director of Project AnimalAid. “These supplies go directly into the hands of veterinarians and animal rescuers who are doing lifesaving work, often with minimal resources, in hard-to-reach areas. We are asking the public for monetary donations to help ensure quick and maximum impact."

The supplies include a wide range of surgical and diagnostic tools essential for spay/neuter efforts and ongoing veterinary services and emergency care including forceps, needle holders, scissors, scalpels, retractors, towel clamps, wound repair kits, and much more.

The stainless-steel instruments will serve Project AnimalAid’s 125 nonprofit partners for years to come as they need only be sterilized between uses. In human medicine, these same instruments are disposed of after one use.

“The environmental aspect of Project AnimalAid’s mission is equally as important for us as improving animal health and welfare,” says Curtis.

“All of the medical supplies that Project AnimalAid donates to its partners were destined for landfills or incinerators before they were redirected to Project AnimalAid. The organization has ‘rescued’ over 50 tons of medical supplies since it started. Those supplies are now saving animals’ lives around the world,” she says.

Project AnimalAid works with partner nonprofits in regions including the United States, Latin America, Africa, Asia and Eastern Europe, ensuring supplies are efficiently delivered to those who need them most.

Sklar Corporation, a leading provider of surgical instruments for more than a century, has long supported medical and humanitarian efforts. This donation reflects the company’s ongoing dedication to using its expertise and resources to make a global difference.

“Community outreach has always been at the heart of Sklar Corporation,” says Mark Gordon, president, Sklar Corporation. “We’re proud to support organizations that share our passion for care — whether it's for people, animals or the planet. By donating quality surgical instruments and supplies to nonprofits improving animal health around the world, we extend our mission beyond hospitals and clinics and into the global community. It’s a meaningful way for us to reduce waste, promote sustainability and help those doing vital work where it’s needed most.”

To make a financial donation to Project AnimalAid and help ensure these gifted medical supplies reach veterinary workers helping animals in need, donate directly here. Benefactors may also choose to donate in memory of a beloved pet.
